Climate
Tropical, modified by southeast trade winds; warm, dry winter (May to November); hot, wet, humid summer (November to May); Natural hazards : Tropical cyclones (November to April);but most cyclones usually occur from the end of December until March. Mauritius has only two seasons, winter and summer. There is not much temperature differences between the two seasons of the year. The climate on the central plateau is cooler than on the coastal areas. The West coast is much wetter and more humid than the East coast.
Hottest part is the west coast
Windiest part is the East coast
December to February are the hottest month of the year
The driest month of the year is October
Coolest months are from June to August

Mauritius is typically tropical in the coastal regions with forests in the mountainous areas. Seasonal cyclones are destructive to the flora and fauna but it recovers quickly.



There are two seasons,which makes it a perfect year-round destination.
The rainy season begins in December and ends in April, in this period, the average maximum temperature is 31°C, while the average minimum temperatures is around 24°C. Tropical cyclones can sometimes affect the island during the months between January and March. The most cool and dry period runs from May to October, in these months the average maximum temperatures vary between 29°C and 26°C, while the average minimum ranging between 19°C and 21°C.
The amount of rainfall varies greatly between areas of the island, in fact, the average annual rainfall is around 1 400 mm along the east coast, while along the west coast the average is only 600 mm and in the interior highlands reaches 4 000 mm.
